Chris Mboho

Christian is also native to Nigeria bringing infrastructure, finance, business and deep community networks to bear in cultivating Cross River’s potential for sustainable economic and environmental development. With over two and a half decades of experience, Chris is a talented manager of people, projects and budgets utilizing effective planning and organizational skills. Christian has expansive work, educational and travel experience both within and outside Nigeria. His long-term relationships with the people and government of Cross River State have helped ADC from inception to realize its vision today. Mboho serves as the Group Managing Director at General Infrastructures Development and Services Ltd., a company operating in the Midstream Downstream Oil and Gas Infrastructure in Nigeria. He was a leading Dealer for NNPCL for over nine years recording some of the highest sales in petroleum products between 2016 and 2019. Christian is also Vice Chairman of Brooks Microfinance Bank, one of the leading community-based, women’s centered microfinance banks in Nigeria with broad community relationships working across sectors with key stakeholders.

Mhobo has experience in the design, set up and delivery of MSMEs development programs for clients and a strong background in Corporate Strategy and Policy Analysis in a developing country environment. He was at the vanguard for the formulation of microfinance/small and medium scale enterprises FUND tagged SMEDFUND for Akwa Ibom State in Nigeria. Christian performs such MSME support programs as investment and advisory services, accounting, finance, financial analysis, preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual project/activity plans; prepare and monitor budgets; undertake market surveys and research work; prepare and analyze feasibility studies; Venture Capital Management; as well as provide technical assistance, training and capacity building for both staff and clients. He’s helped set-up and start five financial institutions (two microfinance Banks, an Issuing House, an Assets Management Company and a world class tourism company in Cross River State near Obudu Cattle Ranch) from inception, implementing communication strategies, strong networking and negotiation skills, among other capabilities. Christian is a key trainer in many microfinance training programs in Nigeria.

Christian concluded a research program where he participated actively in the GRAMEEN BANK INTERNATIONAL DIALOQUE PROGRAM which he studied the GRAMEEN ESSENTIALS in several villages of Comila, Chandila, Barera villages etc in Bangladesh, the methodology of Grameen bank type microcredit in 2009. The Replication Project of Grameen bank is currently engaging his attention in assisting as many microcredit/microfinance institutions as possible to be successful. Christian enjoys passing knowledge to clients. He has also done a baseline research work concerning the MSME clusters in all the thirty one local government areas of Akwa Ibom State in Nigeria.

Mhobo was certified by the UNCDF Distance Learning in Microfinance banking in 2009. One of his key strengths is the ability to analyze the financial statements of MFIs and small businesses. He became an Accredited and Certified Trainer of the Microfinance Distance Learning Course of Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI), African Development Bank (ADB), Tokyo Development Learning Center (TDLC) and The World Bank and is a member of the International Community of Microfinance trainers.

Christian has been working with GLOBAL NEL CONSULTING as TEAM LEADER in developing training programs for MFIs and leading training courses in throughout Nigeria. He is eager to put his analytical skills to work for sustainable development in any part of the developing world, especially within Africa. He is a Microfinance Specialist, an independent Financial Analyst, and Consultant providing Business Development and Institutional Support Services to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) (including capacity building for poverty reduction as well as fostering MSMEs in the delivery of rural utilities) in Nigeria; Policy Analysis Advice for Sustainable Development; Policy Reform and Market Development for public and private organizations; Public-Private Partnerships(PPP); Project Development, Management, Monitoring and Evaluation, as well as Dealing with Donor-agencies. He has also acted as Consultant, providing advice, as well as capacity/institution building support to NASSI in AKWA IBOM. Christian’s several trainings in Microfinance extend beyond Nigeria to include India.

Previously, Mhobo served as a Senior Manager for Allied Bank, PLC. His work in the Nigerian Financial and Infrastructures Development sectors honed his expertise in such core functions:

  • Rural and Microenterprises, Financing and Management (including Cooperatives Management)
  • Projects Management and Evaluation, Finance, Monitoring and Control

Chris earned his Masters in Business Administration in Accounting, Business Management, and International Business from Lagos State University, Nigeria; PGD in Management from the University of Calabar, Nigeria and an HND in Accountancy from The Polytechnic, Calabar, Nigeria.
